The British slang word ‘nonce’ originated in the infamous ‘Monster Mansion’ of Wakefield aka HMP Wakefield. Wakefield prison is a category A prison for men. It has been nicknamed ‘Monster Mansion’ as it houses and has housed some of Britain’s high-profile, high-risk offenders.
The acronym N.O.N.C.E would be marked on the cell card of prisoners deemed at risk from fellow inmates. Staff would keep cells marked N.O.N.C.E closed while prisoners were out in the common areas. As you may have already surmised the prisoners kept locked up for their own safety were paedophiles. ‘Nonce’ is the British slang word for paedophile. Most social media platforms ban the use of words such as ‘paedophile’ and ‘groomer’. ‘Nonce’ is making its way into the universally shared English lexicon.
Although the effects of childhood sexual abuse can manifest in different ways, there are three categories these behaviours fall into. Sexualised behaviour, internalised behaviour, and externalised behaviour. Examples of externalised behaviour are:
Fighting
Cursing
Stealing
Destruction of property
Arson
Running away from home
Underage drinking
Impulsive behaviours
Refusal to follow rules, including written laws and curfews[2]
Externalised behaviour is mainly found in boys.
Men in prison were all once boys. They were vulnerable children. The majority come from backgrounds where violence is common. Abuse a daily occurrence. Neglect, in one form or another, is an epidemic. A lot of these men experienced sexual abuse when vulnerable boys.
This is not to excuse the behaviour of these men or the crimes they committed. This is to understand why even amongst the most feared men of our society paedophiles are loathed. These men are no longer the powerless children once groomed, controlled, and raped by men to satisfy base desires. These are now men who have unwittingly been given the knowledge that childhood vulnerability is a doorway to power for others. Unfortunately, externalised behaviour is the focus when dealing with these men in prison. Not the cause of their behaviour.
There is an inversion that goes on in prison with paedophiles. They are not sexually desired but sexually despised. Yet they have given men the understanding of how being reduced to an object for another’s sexual gratification is ‘absolute power' over another. They are sought out in such a hierarchical system. Their crimes are repeated upon them. Nonces are parasites who are treated as such in prisons.
One of the toughest fights feminists have fought, and are still fighting, is the narrative that children are sexual beings. Capable of consenting to a sexual relationship with an adult. Paedophiles and their apologists like to frame infant sensory exploration and auto-stimulation of the body as “infant sexuality”. Always omitting cognitive development. Always presuming that a physical response is sexual arousal. Always on the lookout for either a vulnerable child or preferably an innocent, naïve, curious child upon which they can act out their salacious desires and claim “I was seduced”.
“Consent is one thing; it is a quite different thing when we are dealing with the likelihood of a child being believed when, speaking of his sexual relations, his affections, his tender feelings, or his contacts (the sexual adjective is often an embarrassment here because it does not correspond to reality), a child's ability to explain what his feelings are, what actually happened, how far he is believed, these are quite different things. Now, where children are concerned, they are supposed to have a sexuality that can never be directed towards an adult, and that's that. Secondly, it is supposed that they are not capable of talking about themselves, of being sufficiently lucid about themselves. They are unable to express their feelings about the whole thing. Therefore, they are not believed. They are thought to be incapable of sexuality and they are not thought to be capable of speaking about it. But, after all, listening to a child, hearing him speak, hearing him explain what his relations were with someone, adult or not, provided one listens with enough sympathy, must allow one to establish more or less what degree of violence if any was used or what degree of consent was given. And to assume that a child is incapable of explaining what happened and was incapable of giving his consent are two abuses that are intolerable, quite unacceptable.” [emphasis added]

Any woman who has ever been “fucked” by a man knows the act itself can be an act of violence.
Any woman who has ever been “fucked” by a man knows no child is physically, emotionally, or cognitively developed to process the assault of unleashed male sexual desire. Women, especially young women, know how threatening a man can be when she unwittingly becomes his object of desire. The weight of male entitlement to our bodies is carried on our shoulders through generations. Female services such as helplines, rape crisis centres and domestic abuse shelters exist because of male entitlement to our mother's and grandmother’s bodies. These are the women who fought to protect us from the male gaze. They fought against male entitlement men believe they have over our bodies, our minds, and our children. Women find it difficult to process and articulate the damage caused by male entitlement. Why do paedophiles and their apologists insist that it is different for children? That we insult and cause harm to children by safeguarding them from men who want to “fuck them”. We know, not just as women and mothers, but as doctors, psychologists, and therapists the damage, not society, but rape causes the developing child. The biggest threat to our children.
The loudest paedophile apologists are Queer Theorists[4] and Queer activists. It started with the blurring of what it means to be a woman. It started with “pronouns”. It started with an attack on the Darwinian understanding of reproduction. Now is the time to end these attacks. To end the queer rhetoric that age is also a social construct. That the damage caused to children is not the act of rape itself but society’s reaction to this assault. This is all bullshit. If you believe otherwise, you are a nonce.
